Merry Christmas from the whole Wigmore team!

Christmas is just around the corner so we want to help you get into the spirit of things with a few suggestions to keep the family amused over the festive period. Let’s take a look at what’s going on in Luton…

Lighting up Luton, Saturday 6th December

Kick off Christmas in real Luton style with this festive town centre event, with lots of craft stalls, an ice rink, Christmas choir competition, and lantern parade, all taking place from 10am onwards. It’s the perfect way to get into the spirit of things right at the start of the Christmas period.

Luton Pantos: Sleeping Beauty or Cinderella

Going to the Panto is a perfect traditional activity – and this year in Luton you could go to see Sleeping Beauty, at Venue 360 in Gypsy Lane, or Cinderella, at Bushmead Community Centre. Just remember… he’s behind you!

Christmas bedtime stories

Enjoy some quality time with the little ones with some lovely Christmas bedtime stories, with free reading events taking place at the Luton Central, Leagrave, and Lewsley libraries.

Christmas truce commemoration

It’s the centenary of the First World War this year, so take a moment to think about the Christmas truce with children’s events at libraries across Luton.

What are you up to this Christmas? Make sure you’re taking time out for some fun… and for some fish and chips of course! We hope to be serving you some festive food very soon.

Are you getting ready for Halloween? The ghouls and goblins will soon be out and about for witching hour, but we know that you might be looking for things to keep the kids amused before the big day arrives. So why not turn the TV off and have some fun getting messy and making some unique Halloween decorations?

We’re getting into the spooky spirit here at The Wigmore with some easy Halloween crafts for kids, great for a rainy day over half term! Take a look below, pick up your supplies, and then get crafting… boo!

Halloween jam jar lights

You’ll need:

– A jam jar of any size

– Some crafty materials like paint, tissue paper, or fabric – depending on which designs you’re making!

– Tea-light candles

– Thick black marker or black paper

– Scissors

Let’s get crafty:

1) Find an empty jam jar or other glass jar, any size you like.

2) Using paint, paper, fabric or a mixture of everything start decorating the outside of the jar. You could glue tissue paper around the outside using PVA glue for a great see-through effect. How about a pumpkin face, or Frankenstein, or a ghost?

3) Leave the jar to dry if necessary, and then use a thick black marker to draw on your scary face or cut your face out of black paper and stick on.

4) Last step is for mum or dad – light a tea-light candle, and put safely into the jar. Then, just turn the lights out and admire your handiwork!

Balloon ghosts

You’ll need:

– White balloons

– Thick black marker

– Thin white material or plastic

– Some string and tape

Let’s get crafty:

1) Blow up a few white balloons, and then using a thick black marker draw on some ghostly faces.

2) Use either white bedsheets, pillow cases (old ones are best!), white plastic bin bags, or any other thin white material, drape over the top of the balloons and secure with tape

3) Hang your ghostly balloons from the ceiling with string… boo!

Cotton bud skeleton

You’ll need:

– Black card or paper

– Cotton buds (white ones are best)

– PVA glue

– White paper

– Scissors

Let’s get crafty:

1) Cut out a skeleton skull shape from white paper and draw on a face using black pen.

2) Using black card or paper as your background, arrange the cotton buds into the shape of your skeleton – ones with white sticks works best, they look just like bones!

3) Glue down all the cotton buds and the skull when you’re happy – this might be a job for mum or dad! The glue goes easily onto the cotton-tips if you’re using PVA.

We hope you enjoy having some fun with our Halloween crafts for kids – if you get creative why not send us a photo on Facebook or Twitter? We’d love to see your spooky creations. Have a very happy Halloween from the whole of the Wigmore team!

The summer holidays are in full swing and the Wigmore Kidz have been thinking up some new games perfect for little Wigmore fans. Why not take a look to see what the Kidz have been up to this summer? Click here to see for yourself.

The little ones can help Danny crack a tough code to learn a fun fact about his favourite sea creature, the octopus. Taylor and Benji need some help too so there’s plenty of new puzzles and quizzes, perfect for keeping the kids happy.

Don’t forget, there’s our summer competition too. It’s time for the little ones to get creative and draw what they’d like to do on a beach or camping holiday – the more summery and colourful the better! Keep the kids amused with some creative fun while you wait for your fish and chips, and then make sure to hand their drawing to a member of staff for the chance to win a family bowling game for 4.

And some more great news. Our summer competition has been extended to Friday 29th August, with the winner announced on Monday 1st September 2014. Pick up an entry form in store or download from the Wigmore Kidz page.

The Wigmore is the place to be this summer so make sure you drop by with the kids. We have a great range of kids meals on offer, all perfect for little tums, from cod bites to chicken drumsticks and sausages. It’s just like mum and dad’s, but all portioned up for the kids. Delicious!

See you soon for some summer Wigmore fun.

Big news! We’ve been awarded a spot on Fry Magazine’s 50 Best Fish and Chip shops 2014. We’re doing our best to bring the best fish and chips to Luton, so we’re very proud to say we’re up there with the tastiest in the country when it comes to your fish supper.

This was a tough competition with hundreds of fish and chip shops from across the country competing for a coveted place on the list. The judging process was very demanding, including mystery shop visits carried out over the last few months. These looked at more than forty areas of customer experience, such as food quality, atmosphere, and customer service.

There were only 50 spaces available on the awards list and so the bar was set extremely high – and we’re pleased to say we lived up to the very high standard to earn our place! All shops on the list averaged more than 95% across all categories, so there was really no room for error.

We’ll keep on serving great fish and chips for the people of Luton so why not drop by for an award-winning bite to eat? Here’s to another great year of fish and chips at The Wigmore.

The Wigmore Kidz are back and ready for some summer holiday fun. Danny, Benji, Taylor, and Wiggie are enjoying the sunshine and have some brand new games now ready to play on the Wigmore Kidz page.

They also have a whole new drawing competition ready for the summer, with the chance to win a family bowling game as the top prize. Just choose one of the Wigmore holiday destinations, and then kids can let their imaginations go wild – what would they like to do on their summer holiday? Hand in all masterpieces to a member of staff to enter. Keep an eye out for the competition when you next visit the Wigmore shop with the family, or download and print the sheet to colour in at home.

Keep an eye out for what the Wigmore Kidz are up to when you next drop by for some fish and chips.
